After defeating New South Wales by six wickets in their One-Day Cup encounter, South Australia climbed to the top of the One-Day Cup table thanks to Alex Carey’s continuous outstanding play and Liam Scott’s outstanding batsmanship.

After thrashing the defeated finalists from the previous season at the Adelaide Oval on Tuesday, South Africa now leads the 50-over format. An impressive effort in the field, which had the visitors bowled out for just 197 after collecting frequent wickets in the 46 overs, set up the outcome.
The most of the damage was caused by two former NSW players: Jason Sangha took 2 for 16 runs, including the crucial wickets of Nic Maddinson and Oliver Davies, while quick bowler Harry Conway took 3 for 27 from his 9.3 overs. In addition, Scott took two wickets, going 2 for 31 in his eight overs.
Middle-order batsmen made the most contributions for NSW, with skipper Jack Edwards and Matthew Gilkes leading the way with 35 apiece.
As the hosts fell to 8 for 2, SA encountered immediate difficulties when Jack Nisbet claimed the wickets of Daniel Drew and Mackenzie Harvey in quick succession.
However, Carey maintained his scorching early-season batting form, hitting 75 off 63 balls to strengthen his case for a call-up to Australia’s white-ball sides.
Player-of-the-match Scott (42 not out to support his two wickets) and Jake Lehmann (46 not out) led SA home, providing long-suffering fans with hope.
SA has won two of its first three games and drawn one, placing them second in the Sheffield Shield and first in the One-Day standings.
Before beginning their Shield encounter at the Adelaide Oval on Thursday, the sides will take a day off.
