The great Virat Kohli of India announced his retirement from Test cricket on Monday, as was to be expected. The board asked Kohli to change his mind about his plan to retire, despite rumors that he had sent an email to BCCI expressing his wish to do so.
But Kohli eventually made his choice public on Monday, posting an emotional message on his Instagram account.

As the legendary player from India was experiencing a downturn in Test cricket, Rohit Sharma declared last week that he was retiring from the format, sparking rumors about Kohli’s future.
Virat Kohli’s slump in Test cricket
In the longest format of the game in recent years, Kohli was going through a difficult time. His numbers declined after 2020, and he was unable to supply the items until 2023. The last straw was the Border-Gavaskar Trophy match against Australia, when he hit a spectacular century in Perth but was unable to contribute much in the other four games as India lost badly.
India will now head to England with an inexperienced group after Rohit retired and Kohli followed suit.
The captain who prioritised Test cricket
India was ranked seventh in the ICC rankings when Kohli was named captain following MS Dhoni’s retirement from Test cricket during the 2014–15 BGT. However, India was the top-ranked team in 2022 when the Delhi cricketer stepped down as captain.
He made Test cricket a top priority over other forms and turned India into a formidable force both at home and in challenging international settings. He scored 9230 runs, including 30 hundreds, in 123 games.
