In kabaddi, like in any other sport, coaches are necessary. A kabaddi coach’s responsibilities extend beyond imparting his tactical knowledge to the squad; they also include developing training plans, getting the best out of players, and making sure everyone is in optimal physical shape. Choosing the appropriate players, backups, and lineups for one’s squad are some more crucial aspects of coaching. Ultimately, though, a coach’s worth is determined by the level of success he achieves with his group. In light of this, here is a look at the top coaches from Pro Kabaddi Season 10, which just ended.
BC Ramesh – Puneri Paltan
BC Ramesh, a 2001 Arjuna award winner and well-known coach in the kabaddi circuit, has won the PKL championship several times in a variety of capacities. BC Ramesh went on to win the Season 7 Pro Kabaddi trophy as head coach of Bengal Warriors, after his stint as assistant coach of Bengaluru Bulls to the Season 6 PKL title. As the head coach of Puneri Paltan, he finished as runner-up in Season 9 before becoming the most successful coach in Pro Kabaddi League in the next season, when the Paltan won their first championship. Manpreet Singh of the Steelers of Haryana
Manpreet Singh, a former Pro Kabaddi champion who played for the Patna Pirates, is still a relatively new coach in the kabaddi circuit, but he has a wealth of teaching expertise, particularly in the Pakistan Premier League. Manpreet Singh was a coach for the Punjab State Kabaddi Association from 2015 to 2019, and his abilities as a coach initially became apparent when he led the Gujarat Giants to consecutive runners-up results in Seasons 5 and 6. It’s only a matter of time till he wins his first PKL championship as coach after guiding the Haryana Steelers to a runners-up position in Season 10.
Sanjeev Baliyan – Jaipur Pink Panthers
Sanjeev Baliyan is a two-time Pro Kabaddi champion as coach and the recipient of the Arjuna Award for his outstanding contributions to kabaddi. He is well-versed in what it takes to guide his side to PKL championship success. In Season 3, he won his first PKL championship as a coach with the Patna Pirates. In Season 9, he led the Jaipur Pink Panthers to their second Pro Kabaddi championship. In addition to Pro Kabaddi, Sanjeev Baliyan won the 66th and 67th Senior National Kabaddi Championship for Men, leading Indian Railways to victory.
Rambir Singh Khokhar – Dabang Delhi K.C.
Rambir Singh Khokhar, a highly skilled coach with extensive kabaddi expertise, started his coaching career in 1988. Rambir Singh Khokhar has received several honors throughout his career while playing for the Indian national team. Among his accomplishments include helping India to bronze in the 2018 Asian Games and a gold medal at the 2017 Asian Kabaddi Championship. In the past, he has also served as head coach for Pro Kabaddi clubs including Patna Pirates, Haryana Steelers, and Dabang Delhi K.C. He has also coached the Iranian and Kenyan national kabaddi teams.
Narender Redhu – Patna Pirates
Narender Redhu is one of the more youthful and up-and-coming coaches in the Indian kabaddi scene, although he has a wealth of head coaching experience and has guided teams to championships in the past. In the 2014 Sri Lanka Sports Exchange Tournament, he served as Red Army’s head coach and guided his squad to a gold medal triumph. Five years later, at the Bangladesh Sports Exchange Tournament in Bhopal, Redhu led Red Army to victory and a gold medal. Redhu most recently took on the position of head coach for Patna Pirates in Season 10 of the Pakistan Premier League. Redhu was the assistant coach of the Haryana Steelers in Season 6.
