Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo is now in talks with the team about extending his contract and postponing his compensation, according to a recent report from Mundo Deportivo.
It should be mentioned that Araujo’s current contract will end in 2026. There has been no real progress in the continuing discussions, therefore another meeting with his agents is planned.
Despite the club’s best efforts, neither Araujo nor his representatives have officially accepted any extension proposals for his contract thus far.
The final significant event was a meeting between Deco and his representatives, Edmundo Kabchi and Edoardo Crnjar, on February 14 to talk about the contract issue. More than six months have gone by since then with no real improvement.
The club is so concerned about this lack of progress that they may decide to put him up for sale by 2025 if nothing changes by then.
Joan Laporta, the president of Barcelona, personally intervened in March to resolve the matter and made Araujo aware of the club’s offer. The club is in a situation of uncertainty since the deal is still pending signature.
Araujo has been out of commission since July recuperating from hamstring surgery.
Araujo’s contract expires in 2026, thus Barcelona needs to think carefully about their alternatives.
With Araujo’s future still up in the air, Barcelona is now facing a challenging situation as the upcoming summer transfer window draws near. The athlete has not yet responded to the club’s initial approach to open negotiations.
