After Bangladesh’s eight-run loss to Afghanistan in the T20 World Cup 2024 Super Eights match, captain Najmul Hossain Shanto claimed that his team’s middle-overs batting choices were weak. Poor play was shown by Najmul Hossain Shanto in the game’s second innings. He had a strike rate of 100.00 and scored 5 runs off of 5 balls. The captain of Bangladesh just hammered one-four while he was on the crease. Shanto stated that their strategy was to attack aggressively in the opening six overs of the second innings in his post-match remarks. He acknowledged that Bangladesh’s batting lineup’s middle order did not perform well.
“I think we bowled pretty well and did a lot of positive things, but we lost today because as a batting team we made bad mistakes, particularly in the middle overs. The intention was to bat normally if we lost early wickets, but it didn’t work out as the middle-order was unable to perform. Instead, we were supposed to attack forcefully in the opening six overs. We have bowled exceptionally well the entire competition, with both our pacers and our spinners. While Rishad stood out, the quick bowlers also performed admirably. We performed well as a fielding group as well,” Shanto said.
Recalling the game, Afghanistan under Rashid Khan chose to bat against Bangladesh after winning the toss.
Rahmanullah Gurbaz led the Afghan team to 115-5 with an incredible performance of 43 runs off 55 balls, 3 fours, and 1 six. In the latter stretch of the first inning, Rashid Khan (19* runs from 10 balls, 3 sixes) and Ibrahim Zadran (18 runs from 29 balls, 1 four) gave it their all and contributed some significant runs to the score.
Bangladesh’s bowling effort was spearheaded by Rishad Hossain, who finished his four-over performance with three wickets and 26 runs conceded.
Rain played a spoiler in the second inning of the match, reducing it to 19 overs with 114 runs as the aim.
Litton Das (54* runs from 49 balls, 5 fours, and 1 six) was the Tigers’ sole notable hitter during the run chase, scoring the most runs out of all of his teammates.
