Heartbreakingly, Pakistan’s T20 World Cup 2024 campaign came to an end on Friday as the United States made their first-ever Super 8s stage qualification. With two points from three games, Babar Azam and company were praying for Ireland to defeat the USA in their last Group A meeting. But fate had other ideas. Because of the intense weather in Florida, the USA vs. Ireland match was canceled, and the co-hosts advanced to the Super 8s with five points instead. Pakistan can only win a maximum of four points in the Group stage, as they have one game remaining.
Following Pakistan’s unexpected elimination from the World Cup, the hashtag “Bye Bye Pakistan” began trending on X, previously Twitter, and amusing parodies began to circulate on social media.
The USA joined India in the Super Eight stage of the T20 championship when their last group match washed out, thanks to their victories against neighboring Canada and powerhouse Pakistan in their first two matches.
Even if Pakistan wins their last game against Ireland, they will still only have four points from their group league campaign, while the USA finished with five points from four games.
In a tight match on Sunday in New York, Pakistan lost to India and was unable to reach their aim of 120. Prior to that, they lost a shocking Super Over match to USA in their Dallas opener.
Pakistan’s hopes of making it to the Super Eight were already out of their hands following their consecutive losses. Once again, the unpredictably bad Pakistanis waited too long to qualify for another international competition.
