Glamorgan defeated Notts Outlaws by eight wickets at the Gnoll in Neath, preserving their perfect record in the Metro Bank One Day Cup with to career-best efforts from Andy Gorvin and Eddie Byrom.
Jamie McIlroy and Dan Douthwaite each took two wickets, while Gorvin’s 5 for 56 was the standout performance for Glamorgan’s seamers as they controlled the Outlaws’ batting order.
The Outlaws concluded with a score of 274 for 9, which Glamorgan easily defeated with Byrom scoring 123 and Colin Ingram scoring 103.
Thanks to this win, Glamorgan are now ahead of Warwickshire in Group B based on net run rate.
Notts Outlaws scored 23 runs for the loss of two wickets during the powerplay despite having a sluggish start due to some superb new ball bowling from Timm van der Gugten and Jamie McIlroy. Van der Gugten was maybe a bit unlucky to go wicketless after consistently beating the bat, as six of the first ten overs were maidens.
Jack Haynes fell for his fourth consecutive duck in this tournament, while Ben Slater went for one as McIlroy took both wickets inside the fielding limitations. Following that, Freddie McCann and Haseeb Hameed’s stand of 86 put the Outlaws back in the game.
After inside-edging the ball onto his foot and being caught by Will Smale off Gorvin’s bowling, McCann fell for a career-high 48.
Throughout the Outlaws’ innings, wickets dropped often, and Hameed was the one keeping everything together. He performed well to withstand the Glamorgan seamers’ early movement, and he was in a position to counterattack Colin Ingram’s leg spin, which scored 22 runs in his two overs. When Hameed attempted to accelerate towards the conclusion of the innings, he was out for 89.
With scores in the twenties from both Liam Patterson-White and Tom Moores, the Outlaws were able to surpass 200. Notts could at least hope to protect their score after the tail contributed some significant runs.
The Glamorgan innings began quite differently, as Byrom and Will Smale shared 103 runs for the first wicket to break the back of this pursuit.
Following an over in which he nicked James through to wicketkeeper Moores, Kiran Carlson fell, leaving Glamorgan 108 for 2, giving Notts Outlaws some hope. Smale had reached 37 when he was caught by Lyndon James in the covers.
After that, Byrom and Ingram took front stage as they led Glamorgan to victory with a superb stand of 170, rendering the Outlaws’ total appear much below standard for this ground.
The two set hitters at the Gnoll faced no difficulty due to the narrow boundaries, as they combined to smash 27 fours and six sixes. Both batters were quite destructive when faced with anything short. The winning runs were hit by Ingram, who reached his tenth List A hundred.
