In order to go to the Italian Cup quarterfinals, AC Milan thrashed Serie B leaders Sassuolo 6-1 at the San Siro on Tuesday, thanks to two goals from Samuel Chukwueze. After a patchy start to life under new coach Paulo Fonseca, Milan is currently undefeated in seven games across all competitions. The seven-time European winners are aiming for just their sixth overall victory and their first Italian Cup since 2003. Fonseca told Sport Mediaset, “It was a very good performance, the first half was magnificent and also helped me to rest some players.”

After Chukwueze’s first shot had bounced against the post, he bundled the ball into the net in the 12th minute to give the home team the lead.
Barely five minutes later, Tijjani Reijnders scored a spectacular goal after a loose ball landed beyond the area, giving Milan a two-goal lead.
The waves of Milan assaults were too strong for Sassuolo to halt, and Fonseca’s team scored three goals in the twenty-first minute.
Two minutes later, Ruben Loftus-Cheek raced forward and passed in Rafael Leao, who drilled the ball into the bottom corner, continuing the sequence.
At halftime, Fonseca made four changes to give some important players, such as Leao and Loftus-Cheek, a break.
Davide Calabria scored Milan’s first goal of the season in the 56th minute, giving them another goal.
Shortly after, Samuele Mulattieri gave Sassuolo a consolation goal, but Abraham’s superb back-heel finish gave him his fourth goal since moving to Milan on loan from Roma.
Bologna defeated Monza 4-0 earlier in the season to get to the round of eight for the second consecutive year.
Tommaso Pobega and Riccardo Orsolini gave the two-time winners two goals in three minutes of the first half, seizing control of the last-16 match.
This season, Monza, who are in Serie A’s relegation zone, wanted to make it to the quarterfinals for the first time in fifty-four years.
However, in the 63rd minute, Santiago Castro, another Argentinean, gave Benjamin Dominguez his third assist of the game, putting them out of the game.
Following their 3-0 league triumph against bottom-place Venezia over the weekend, Bologna secured back-to-back victories as Dominguez returned the favor for Castro with 14 minutes remaining.
