Ireland’s coach Heinrich Malan discussed his thoughts on the upcoming big event prior to their matchup against Pakistan in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, stating that thus far, the competition has gone very strangely. Ireland has only earned one point from their three games played in the ongoing competition, placing them last in Group A at the moment. They have already been unable to advance to the current major event’s Super Eights. The Irish squad will play the Men in Green in their last group stage encounter of the game on Sunday at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground in Lauderhill, Florida.
The Ireland coach said that since their trip to Florida last week, the team had not practiced at all.
We’ve had a lot of luck. A few weeks ago, we performed for them in our own Ireland. From the perspective of preparation, it’s been difficult. Well, that’s the truth—we haven’t trained at all since our trip to Florida last week. We’ve been going over some of the ideas that we were able to execute fairly successfully back home and win the first game during our unit and preparation meetings. Hopefully, we can build on that for a little while longer and perform well tomorrow,” Malan said during the press conference held prior to kickoff.
The Irish coach went on to say that the team has been kept occupied by the management.
“As you say, it’s been a strange World Cup. Well, look, we’ve done everything we can to keep the boys occupied, including keeping them physically active and, of course, working on our preparation and analytics in the background. The lads are currently playing a little soccer and are attempting to ignite their competitive spirit in preparation for tomorrow,” Malan said.
